Nik Haddon | Web Developer

Web developer for hire

Hi, I’m Nik Haddon. I am an Australian web developer based in Hobart. I create clean, optimised, responsive websites and web applications. Whether you’re looking for a web developer to build your organisation’s website, searching for someone to join your development team or just after some help with a project of your own, I’d love to hear from you.

If you’re in the market for an honest & hard working web developer, why not drop me a line so we can talk about working together.

How can I help?

Your website is often the first point of contact that potential clients will make with your business. Up front the site needs to be an extension of your business, providing visitors with useful, relevant information while instilling a sense of confidence in your business through thoughtful, brand consistent design. Behind the scenes your website needs to be robust, scalable and secure. The code base must be light weight, meet modern industry standards, be accessible to assistive technology and be optimised in a way that makes search engines love it. Whether you’re just starting up, already established and in need of an online presence or a Web Developer looking to collaborate on a large project, I’d really like to help out. From wire-framing, design, development, data compression, asset optimisation, cross-browser and accessibility testing through to organising the hosting, domain name registration, email set-up, site launch and ongoing management, I’ve got you covered.

As a web developer I understand that an eye catching design that displays perfectly on any size screen and is truly representative of your business deserves to be built on a rock solid foundation of code. From a custom built static site to a WordPress integration with self managed content, your website will be created using the latest technology. Leveraging its power to build the strongest, most secure, standards-compliant, and flaw-free code base from the get go.

The design of your website begins with understanding your business. Only then can I deliver a clean, functional, custom web design that is truly representative of your brand and engages your audience. Working with your existing branding I will formulate a design that compliments your business’s print media material and signage. Unlike some other creative agencies I won’t lock you into a set number of design revisions, I’ll keep working at it until we have a design that we can both be proud of. Your website needs to be just as beautiful, functional and impressive no matter what device its displayed on. Over half of Australia’s consumer web traffic comes from mobile, if your website is not geared towards mobile, you’re seriously missing out! By adopting a mobile first design approach to crafting your website and scaling it up for larger screens you can rest assured that your prospective clients will be able to find your business, even on the go.

Usability is a key consideration when designing a website. A website that is clunky and unusable is one that is quickly abandoned by its visitors. While navigation is the primary focus, it should encompass every aspect of the website offering the visitor an intuitive, easy to use experience. The interface should clearly represent your brand and appeal to your target audience, it should look professional and provide the viewer with a simple to navigate site that takes them to the information they require with ease. It should feature prominent calls to action that have your target audience firmly in mind. Your site should be accessible. Web accessibility is the practice of making websites usable to everyone regardless of their abilities by utilising technologies and techniques that assist in making content accessible and navigable whether the user is vision, hearing, motor-skill or learning impaired.

Once your website is up and running you need to know how to look after it. This might range from knowing how to update the content through the CMS to knowing how and when to apply software upgrades. All my websites come with comprehensive training and two months after sales service to help guide you in the ongoing management of your new site and answer any questions that you might have. If you would like something a little more permanent, an ongoing contract can be arranged.

Almost all websites consist of several assets, there are the text based assets like HTML, CSS and JavaScript files and there are image assets like the logo and photos. Asset optimisation is the art of compressing these files down to the smallest size possible to allow the fastest page load time with no loss of quality. Faster page load times are good for everybody, your site’s users will be happier, search engines will treat your site favourably and your server won’t need to use as many resources to serve your site. I compress all possible assets for every site that I build and am more than happy to look at your existing website to see how much faster I can make it for you.

Hosting your website on a fast reliable host located in your local area is vital to ensuring that your website is served quickly and reliably. Choosing a host with great technical ability, a regular back-up schedule and reliable customer support is essential. Choosing the right hosting package can be a daunting prospect, there’s a lot of technical jargon to sift through and data requirements decisions to make. If the prospect of pouring over reams of technical documentation doesn’t fill you with glee, why not let me take care of that for you. We can discuss your site’s requirements and I’ll find you the right hosting package at the best possible price.
